ANIME
- Anime News
Network
"I was
anime, before anime was cool." I say that
because besides this site having the usual anime
reviews and industry information, it is filled
with fandom information that you rarely find
collected in one place. There are news articles
about conventions and fan subtitlers, fan letters
and a fan message board. Fan submissions for
anime reviews are welcomed. Reminds me of the old
days (just a few years ago :) when fandom drove
anime . . .
- Anime on DVD
DVD, with its
multiple language tracks and abundance of space
for optional extras, is the perfect medium for
anime. This site has reviews of anime on DVD,
release dates, industry information and more. If
you are looking to upgrade your collection to the
DVD format...and why wouldn't you be :)...this is
the place to go.
- Anime Web Turnpike
The ultimate
roadmap for anime sites on the web. Conventions,
companies, news, galleries, fan sites, etc. Your
one-stop resource to the world of anime and manga
online. Hundreds of links and constant updates. I
suppose you could use a search engine and travel
through hundreds of links to find what you're
looking for...you must have a lot of free time.
Take my advice, take a left turn and get on the
Turnpike.
- EX: The Online World of Anime &
Manga
This is one of
the best anime-related online fanzines. Reviews
include: movie, television, music, games and
manga; plus there are letters from fans, feature
stories on all the above including conventions
and fandom, and an editorals. Most of the anime
reviewed is after the Japanese release, months
before a US release (if ever). Two thumbs up to
this site.
SCIENCE FICTION
- Sci-Fi Channel Dominion
The Sci-Fi
Channel's web site. 'nuff said, but I'll type on.
This site has a little bit of everything besides
what's playing on the Sci-fi Channel. Message
boards, gaming information, downloadable
multimedia, future-related articles, sci-fi
media-related links, sci-fi merchandise and more.
The most used links by this reviewer are Sci-fi
Wire and Science Fiction Weekly which review sci-fi in all
its many forms and formats.
- The Den
The Den, or
The Daily Entertainment Network, has a lot more
than just sci-fi. It has a lot of pop culture
articles and reviews, too (mainstream tv, music
and movies). No doubt, the "babe of the
day" increases this site's hit total...hey,
where are you going? Come back here and read on.
Anyway, for those you still left here, the sci-fi
section is fun and well written with television
and movie reviews, the occassional sci-fi-related
poll and touch of anime through in there (usually
ignored by a lot of sci-fi web sites!).
GAMING
- Gamer's Republic
A relatively
new video gaming magazine with one of the most
beautiful layouts I've seen. Their website is
also relatively new and does not yet contain as
much information as other online gaming sites.
Given enough time and staff it could be really
nice compliment to the monthly magazine. The site
is multi-platform based and has news from Japan
about soon (maybe) to be released systems and
games. This site has potential...
- IGN -
Imagine Games Network
With sub-sites
devoted to your platform of choice: PC, Online,
Playstation, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, this site
comes fully loaded with previews, reviews, codes,
releases, q&a, and daily news. One of the
most complete gaming sites I've seen. Nice visual
layout. Lots of content. Nuff said.
- Next Generation
Online
If you want to
understand or were curious about the inner
workings of the gaming world and you like a more
adult approach to video gaming (i.e. your a
serious gamer), try Next Generation Online. There
are previews, reviews and demos like other sites
but where this site shines is its news coverage
of the gaming industry and its q&a. The
behind the scenes news on companies that make the
games we play and build the platforms that we
play on. Interviews with developers, hardware
specs and a glossary of tech terms are but a few
of the goodies you do not see on most other
gaming sites. The q&a section is a great
place to ask questions. This site (and the
monthly magazine to some degree) is the Wall
Street Journal...uh...maybe the New York Times of
gaming information.
